Another victory for Marriage Equality

Congratulations goes out to Illinois for becoming the 15th state to approve Marriage Equality!

This such exciting news! Each time a state passes a bill giving rights thousands of gays and lesbians the right to marry is just… it’s amazing and moving. And, I won’t lie, that it makes me think about where I am going to get married. I have family in Illinois and though I don’t know if they would approve, it still leaves me with this happy feeling that the idea of marriage equality will soon be accept from coast to coast of the United States.

The rumor floating around the news wavelengths is that Hawaii will be the next state to approve gay marriage. My fingers are crossed that this is true. I would love to see every state in the USA back gay marriage. A lot of people who are against marriage equality push that this is killing marriage and it should be between a man and a woman. To these remarks I say keep your views to yourself. I was born too two straight parents who split after seventeen years of marriage. To each his own, who I want to marry has no affect on anyone else nor their family (beside my partners, of course.)

In my opinion the supposed “sanctity” of marriage has already gone out the window. I don’t even think such a thing exists now when the US has such a high divorce rate. Move out of the way republicans, Marriage Equality is becoming a reality and nothing will change it.  To quote the late Dr. Martain Luther King:

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise
up, live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these
truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

Though at the time of this speech, Dr. King was speaking on Civil Rights, it was at around this time that the LGBTQ Community was fighting for rights. But, the context is the same because I have a dream that one day, I will be able to put my finger on any state on the US map and say to my future wife that we are getting married in this state on this day. I also have a dream that one day, I might be able to exchange my vows in my home state of Texas though I know this state has a long way to go. Still, my dream and goal of seeing Marriage Equality is become a beautiful reality every single day and I am so proud of the LGBTQ Community.
